Una de las zonas de Cantabria que solíamos patear bastante es Saja. No la frecuento apenas últimamente - será porque he preferido descubrir zonas menos transitadas. Algo parecido podría decirse de los puertos de Sejos. Así que, para enmendar este olvido injusto volví al sendero que llaman Jaya Cruzá, que sigue el río Saja hacia esos pastizales. Después pretendía continuar al Cuetu de la Concilla: una ruta que hice hace más de quince años - pero en verano, cuando el esfuerzo considerable de llegar a la cima tuvo la desagradable recompensa de encontrar un enjambre de moscas que me impidió disfrutar de las vistas.
In the first years after moving to this part of Spain, the Saja forest was one of our favourite destinations at weekends. I haven't been back there too often in recent times as I've gone in search of other lesser known spots. The same could be said for the Sejos pastures, so it occurred to me that it was about time I revisited the Jaya Cruzá (crossed beech) up to Sejos following the Saja river and then on up to a mountain called La Concilla. I did this walk over 15 years ago in summer and had the misfortune to be greeted at the summit after a really tough climb up by a swarm of flies that made it impossible to hang around.

Atravesé una zona de escajos que se estaba recuperando de un incendio, lo que me facilitaba el progreso. A medida que subía se dejaban ver los Picos, flanqueados por Peña Labra y el cuetu Jelgueras
I took advantage of an area where there'd clearly been a fire and the gorse was only just starting to recover. As I got higher, the Picos de Europa became visible, bookended by Peña Labra on the left and Jelgueras on the right.
A long walk up to be honest, and the frequent cold blasts of wind presaged windy conditions on the summit
Desplazándome un poco al oeste veo la pista que sube hacia el puerto de Sejos desde Puente Pumar, con Jelgueras enfrente
Por fin me aproximo a la cima - ¡sin moscas ni viento excesivo!
I eventually found myself a few steps from the top - with no flies in sight and less wind than expected!

Hace años me llamó tanto la atención la Piedra Jincá que pongo su imagen como mi avatar en algunos sitios. Es una lástima que aparte de estar cada vez más inclinada está abandonada a su suerte.
Years ago I was so taken by this standing stone, the Piedra Jincá, that I use it as my avatar on some websites. It's still standing just about, but seems to have been abandoned to its fate

Y casi al final el árbol muy fotografiado, que desde este lado me recordaba un director de orquesta mirando a los músicos debajo
Saqué unas cuantas fotos de los hayas mientras bajaba On my way down I took a few photos of the beech trees 
And almost at the end of the walk is the tree that is often photographed, which from this side made me think of a conductor bent over looking at the orchestra down below
Para terminar, esta foto de diciembre del año pasado. Sacada desde el Iján, se ve claramente la zona quemada debajo de la cumbre del cuetu Concilla (derecha).
And as a footnote, this photo from December last year taken from Iján, just opposite Cuetu Concilla. You can clearly see the burnt hillside below the summit (right).
