Dulla y sus canales / Escarpments and ravines

He oído hablar del "Mar de Castilla", pero creo que no se refiere a estas "olas" rocosas que se ven al poco de salir andando de Puentedey en las Merindades de Burgos.

Shortly after setting out from Puentedey in Burgos we saw these wave-like rock formations behind us. 

Seguimos una pista hacia el oeste hasta poder subir al cerro que quedaba a nuestra derecha.
We continued along the track westwards until we were opposite a break in the escarpment to our right.

Empezamos a subir y vi dos puntos rojizos abajo que indican la estación en que nos encontramos.
As we climbed up I saw two flashes of red standing out from the green

Al llegar al collado la Puerta se abre ante nosotros el Campo la Corza, una de las canales de Dulla.

Subo hacia la derecha
I decided to see what the view was like up from the right 

y rápidamente llego a la Haza de la Sierra, desde donde se ve Puentedey
I soon got to a point from which I could see Puentedey 

En dirección contraria (norte), sigue el escarpe. Hacia allá nos vamos
In the opposite direction, the scarp continues.

Llegamos al punto más alto: "Dulla", y aunque el día está cubierto vemos el Embalse del Ebro a lo lejos
We reached the highest point - Dulla. The weather was also pretty dull, but the Ebro reservoir was visible away to the west

Seguimos hasta la zona más verde
We carried on to the greener end of the scarp

Al este queda la Canal de La Mata (o Barranco de Dulla en algunos mapas)
To the east is the main ravine (Mata), lying parallel to the one we followed

Ahora descendemos suavemente hacia el sureste y nos adentramos en la parte alta de la Canal de Valdecastro
We now headed south-east and entered the Valdecastro ravine

Seguimos un sendero durante largo rato hacia abajo
We followed a path for a good while as it made its way downwards

Llega un momento en que nuestra canal se junta con la de la Mata
Eventually the two ravines (Valdecastro and Mata) converge

Dejamos de perder altura, y entramos en un sitio llano.  Muy poca agua hemos visto.
We get to the bottom of the gorge, now on the level. Not a lot of water about...

Conectamos con otra Canal (de la Muela) que viene desde el norte y vamos en dirección sur. Miro hacia atrás cuando nos queda poco para llegar al pueblo de Quintanilla Valdebodres.
We come into another ravine, and turn southwards. A look back just before we reach Quintanilla Valdebodres.

Seguimos la carretera local durante 2 kilómetros y cerramos el círculo en Puentedey. Aprovecho para visitar el túnel natural encima del que han construido parte del pueblo.
It's just over a mile along the road from this village back to Puentedey. Once there I went to have a look at the tunnel through the rock, on top of which part of the village was built.

Ha sido una excursión que me ha sorprendido, ya que iba con la idea de recorrer el escarpe hasta el Dulla simplemente. Afortunadamente algunos compañeros traían la información sobre el barranco, que es la parte que más me ha gustado. Seguramente volveré a esta zona para explorar otras canales.
I had set off just expecting to walk up the escarpment to Dulla, but fortunately some friends on the hike had information about the ravines, which is the part I most enjoyed. I'll be back another day to explore some more.
