La Porra de la Colina / Colina revisited

Nos dirigimos a los Collados del Asón. Subiendo Alisas miramos atrás y vemos la niebla que hemos dejado atrás.

The weekend's outing was to the head of the Asón Valley. Half-way up Alisas we stopped the car to look back at the fog we'd left behind.

Empezamos a andar hacia el NO por la pista que nos acerca a las cabañas de Horneo.
Once at the Collados del Asón we set off along a track to the north-west

Enfrente está Mortillano

Cogemos un sendero a la derecha balizado hasta Colina y atravesamos el Monte Asón
We took a path signposted to Colina which took us through a beech wood

Después de salir del hayedo disfrutamos de las vistas del Mazo, la comarca de Soba, y en el horizonte dos cumbres vascos: Anboto, y más a la derecha, Gorbea

On the other side we had views of the south Cantabria region of Soba, and on the horizon, two well-known Basque mountains: Anboto, and to the right, Gorbea

Al llegar a la primera cabaña de Saco hay un llano y vemos la arista que sube poco a poco a Colina a nuestra izquierda. Dejamos la ruta balizada y subimos por detrás de otra cabaña a través de un bosque al Portillo del Tijuelo. Al otro lado se ve el Picón del Fraile...
The path levels off when you get to the first hut in Saco. The ridge to the left leads gently up to Colina. Here we left the signposted route and turned up past another stone hut, through a wood and out onto the Portillo de Tijuelo. The military base on the Picón del Fraile appears on the other side.

Cruzamos la arista hacia el noroeste, viendo las Hazas del Respiradero debajo
We crossed the ridge to the NW, looking down on the clefts in the rocks below to our left

Al otro lado del poljé de Brenavinto están Los Campanarios

Paramos a almorzar con vistas a Colina, y un bosque ya con colores otoñales que baja la ladera al Hoyón de Saco
We stop for a bite to eat with Colina just across the way, and a wood with autumnal colours covering the slopes down to the Hoyón del Saco depression

Subimos a Colina, pasando por esta canal empinada. Un buitre está al acecho.
We walk up to Colina, the last part being this steep incline up to a gap in the rocks. A vulture circles above.

Desde la cima vemos Porracolina (que tiene un nombre parecido), que destaca más,  aunque tiene menos altitud
From the top we see Porracolina (which has a similar name), a mountain that stands out much more despite its lower elevation.

La arista por donde vinimos: en el centro el Mesón de Saco. A su izquierda está el Hoyón de Saco y un poco más allá, la Lastrera
The ridge we came along: in the centre is the Mesón de Saco, with the wood leading down on its left side to the Hoyón.

Nos escapamos de las hormigas voladoras que había en la cima (igual han venido desde La Porra de las Hormigas al otro lado de Porracolina ;-) y nos acercamos al Mirador de Minudío, que nos ofrece vistas bonitas al Barranco de Rolacías.

We didn't hang around, as a plentiful excursion of flying ants had also picked that day to visit the summit. So we walked down to a vantage point slightly to the north to take in the views of the Rolacías gorge.

 Más hacia el oeste quedan los Picones de Sopeña (y esa niebla persistente).
 Further west is the Picones de Sopeña ridge (with the fog still lurking behind)

Dejamos el mirador y bajamos en dirección sureste, bordeando el Hoyón de Saco. El agua que entra aquí pasa por kilómetros de canales subterráneos antes de aparecer en el Nacimiento del Asón.
Continuing to the south-west we go round the Hoyón cwm. The water that seeps underground here comes out at the source of the Asón, several kilometres away.

This fossil of a prehistoric fish is one of many that can be found here

El sendero balizado nos lleva a un bosque
The signposted walk takes us into a wood

que nos devuelve a Saco. A partir de aquí hacemos el mismo camino de la mañana, adentrándonos en el hayedo
which leads us back to Saco. From there we take the same path as that followed in the morning, making our way through the beech wood.

y por fin salimos a Horneo, donde atajamos para pisar la pista otra vez. Ya al borde del valle del Asón tenemos otra perspectiva del Mosquiteru y Peña Lavalle.
until we eventually reach Horneo, where we take a short cut to get back onto the track. From the edge of the Asón Valley we see Mosquiteru and Peña Lavalle from a different angle.
