Pico Cohora y Río Frío

Llevaba tiempo pensando hacer una ruta por la Vega de Liébana coincidiendo con algo de nieve en las cumbres, y aprovechando de los cielos que seguían despejados salí del pueblo de Barrio por la pista que sube hacia Casanzo.
Taking advantage of the continuing clear skies I decided on a walk in the south-west of Cantabria up towards the limits of the province with Palencia. A track heads briefly east then south out of Barrio (Vega de Liébana) up towards Casanzo.

Mi idea original era intentar llegar al Zamburria (derecho) pero todo dependería de cuánta nieve hubiera y en qué estado
The original idea was to get to the top of Zamburria, on the right, depending on how much snow there was and what condition it was in.

Desde la mitad de la subida se hacía cada más presente
From half-way up it became more and more visible

Barrio está abajo a la derecha, con Ándara de fondo

Pasado el collado de Casanzo, decidí salir de la pista y subir hacia la izquierda, dejando Zamburria para otro día. En la foto se aprecia la pista que baja en zigzags a Ledantes, que tomaría luego.
Having reached the Casanzo pass I decided to leave the track to Zamburria and carry on up the slope to the left. On the right of the photo you can see the track that zigzags its way down to Ledantes, and which I'd take later.

La primera parte de esta subida; mirando atrás se ve el Bistruey a la derecha y Córcina un poco más hacia el centro

La antecima (Cohora en el mapa de Adrados) ofrece una vista preciosa de la cara norte de Peña Prieta y de Zamburria a la derecha
From the fore-summit the imposing north face of Peña Prieta came into view, with Zamburria to the right

El resto de la subida hasta la cresta rocosa de Cohora (Cumbre de Cordel según Adrados). A la izquierda, Picos Pumar y Lezna
All I had left was to make my way up to the rocky summit of Cohora. On the left are Pico Pumar and Pico Lezna

Curavacas

Por suerte no había nieve en las rocas en la cima y pude disfrutar del bocata con estas vistas tan bellas del valle de Río Frío
Fortunately threre was no snow on the rocks at the summit, and I was able to sit down to a meal with beautiful views in front of me of the río Frío (Cold river) valley

I then came down the southern side towards Río Frío

La pista no se veía pero se andaba bien hacia el NO para rodear la cima donde había estado
The track I knew from years ago was hidden under the snow but it was easy walking to the NW to go round the high ground

Pasamos por delante de Zamburria
We went past Zamburria

luego cogí la pista que baja por el bosque a Ledantes - había más nieve que en la que subí, y no resultaba muy placentero caminar por ella - a Monty le molestaba bastante ya que empezaba a hundirse.
Then I chose to go down the track through the woods to the village of Ledantes. There was more snow than on the one I'd come up and it wasn't easy-going. Even Monty was beginning to sink and found it uncomfortable.

Una vez en Ledantes bajamos al río, donde están la pisa,
Once in Ledantes we went down to the river, where there's an old fulling machine

y la casa al lado del molino con una placa que me llamó la atención
and the plaque on the side of the mill in memory of a member of the Spanish maquis who lived there

Cruzamos el río y seguimos el sendero balizado por el Camino Lebaniego, y poco después cogimos un ramal a la izquierda en llano hasta conectar con una pista que lleva el caminante a Barrio. En total un paseo agradable de media hora entre los dos pueblos.
We crossed the river and took the path that's signposted as the Lebaniego Way before turning off to the left shortly afterwards and joining up with a track that take you to Barrio. A pleasant half hour's walk between the two villages.

Aunque había desechado la ruta original me quedé muy satisfecho por haber conocido el mirador natural del Cohora
Despite having rejected the original aim of the hike, I was well satisfied to have discovered Cohora, a very accessible vantage point
