A woody loop / una ruta circular boscosa

As wet set off from the village of Cicera a few drops of rain were falling, and the cloudy skies meant we couldn't be sure what weather we'd have when we got to higher ground. But at least the main part of the walk up to a well-known yew copse would be through woodland, meaning low-lying cloud wouldn't spoil the enjoyment

Cuando nos pusimos en camino en el pueblo de Cicera, caían unas gotas de agua y las nubes no presagiaban un día sin complicaciones meteorológicas. Pero íbamos a transitar por bosques así que confiábamos que no nos afectara demasiado

 

After about three hours, a yew tree by the side of the path signalled we weren't too far away from the upper reaches of the hillside. Not much visibility beyond though

Después de unas tres horas, un tejo al lado del sendero recordaba el lugar adonde nos dirigimos. Se veía que la nube seguía presente

I took a short detour to revisit a pass that you normally go over to get to the copse. Curavacas and Peña Prieta in the distance

Me desvié momentáneamente del camino para visitar un collado que suele ser paso obligado para llegar a la braña. Al fondo están Curavacas y Peña Prieta

And then the last incline to the Alto de las Cuerres, offering lovely views.

Después, la última subida al Alto de las Cuerres, que nos ofrecía vistas bonitas

The peaks on the skyline were playing hide-and-seek, but all in all we were really fortunate with the weather

We made the obligatory visit to the yews, many of which seem to have sprung from the rocks

Then it was time to follow an old mining path, with Peña Ventosa on our left

Después de la visita obligatoria a la braña de los tejos tocaba seguir un camino minera, pasando por delante de Peña Ventosa mientras bajábamos

Gradually things became foggier

La niebla iba en aumento

and as we made our way to Arcedón

y mientras caminábamos hacia Arcedón

and then into the woods again, cattle and trees took on a ghostly hue

y volvíamos a entrar en el bosque el ganado y los árboles aparecían como fantasmas

Today wasn't the best for admiring views of the valley below. This is the third time I've been through the beautiful wood we walked through on the return leg of our hike. Under the canopy of magnificent beech trees you have the illusion of being in a cave as much as a forest

Es la tercera vez que recorro el hayedo por donde bajamos. Debajo de la bóveda arbórea tienes la sensación de estar en una cueva además de en medio de un bosque

As we come out of the wood, all that's left is a short walk back into Cicera

Salimos del bosque, y solo queda un paseo hasta Cicera
