Después de tantas semanas de confinamiento me aproveché de la posibilidad de coger el coche a otra parte del municipio. El paseo de media hora de San Juan del Canal a Arnía coincidió con el bajamar, que añadió al placer de volver a ver el tómbolo de Isla de Castro
After umpteen weeks forced to stay in Bezana, I immediately took advantage of changes that meant we could drive to other parts of the district at permitted hours. The half-hour walk along the coast from San Juan del Canal to Arnía coincided with low tide, which added to the attraction I've always felt for the Isla de Castro tombolo.

And Arnía, which was as far as I was allowed to walk

El fin de semana siguiente ya se podía salir del municipio. Quería algo suave para ayudar a ponerme en forma, y elegí una ruta circular en el monte Saja
The following weekend we could go elsewhere in the province. I wanted something not too taxing to help get back into shape so chose a circular walk in the Saja forest
El tiempo que tardé en llegar a La Mina Lápiz me pareció muy largo - ¡cómo cambia la percepción de los kilómetros y los minutos! Y ¡a andar!
The hour or so it took to drive to La Mina Lápiz seemed like a very long time- how quickly do you get used to a life reduced to short distances!
En poco más de media hora llegué a Cambilla, y donde la pista gira a la izq. y solo se permite el paso a vehículos autorizados dejé la pista, como he hecho en ocasiones anteriores. Justo a la der. de un arroyo (seco) hay un sendero poco visible que sube entrando en el bosque.
After half an hour or so you get to Cambilla, and just where there's a sign for authorised vehicles only I left the track as I have on previous occasions. Just to the right of a (dry) stream there's a barely visible path that heads up into the trees.
Luego sigues la pista hacia la derecha, y pronto das vista a la divisoria adonde se llega más tarde
Thereafter you just follow the track to the right, which soon offers glimpses of the uplands you'll get to later on
La pista se me hizo un poco monótono después de un rato, pero hay un lugar donde unas rodadas se meten hacia la derecha. Casi te está gritando -¡Atajo por aquí! -y puedes cruzar el prado hermoso y volver a conectar con la pista cuando haya girado a la derecha más arriba.
The trail gets a bit boring after a while, but there's a point where tyre tracks lead off to the right that almost screams "Short cut this way!" and from there you can cross the vast meadow and link up with the track as it curves round to the right.

Once back on the track, La Concilla and Peña Sagra can now be seen behind

The track continues to Ozcaba but we don't need to go that far
En una curva subo por la ladera a la izquierda hacia Tambuey. Está indicado como parte de la ruta de los 10.000 del Soplao. Desde arriba contemplo la subida a Palombrera
I leave the track at a bend going up to the left towards Tambuey. From there views of the road up to Palombera
y distintos tramos de la pista que he seguido. A la izquierda está el prao donde puedes atajar. A lo lejos se ve Peña Labra.

En lugar de bajar a Los Tojos, giro a la izquierda en Colsa y sigo la senda balizada
Instead of going down to Los Tojos, I turn left in Colsa and follow the signposted GR path down the hill

This is where I heard the sad news of the death of a member of my family, which changed my feelings for the rest of the walk

Hay que ir hacia el norte, luego NE, manteniéndote a la derecha del arroyo. En unos 15-20 minutos sales a la pista. El atajo te permite saborear mejor el bosque.

Llego a Saja - queda media hora por la carretera hasta llegar al coche. Una cosa que había anticipado antes del paseo era la posibilidad de ver animales que se había adentrado durante el Estado de Alerta en zonas conquistados por el hombre, pero lo único que me llamó la atención en ese sentido era unas golondrinas que me pasaron velozmente en Saja. Las primeras del año, y más tarde en Bezana vería un par de aviones comunes.
I come out in Saja, which leaves a half-hour walk along the road back to the car. One thing I'd anticipated before the walk was the chance to see animals that had ventured into territory off-limits before lockdown, but the only noteworthy sighting was of a pair of swallows darting past me in Saja. The first of the year, to be followed up later in Bezana by a couple of housemartins.
