Tres arroyos en el Valle de Buelna/Stream to the whitewater

 
El tiempo acompañaba en el primer día de primavera y me acerqué a Coó, cerca de Barros, por solo la segunda vez en mi vida. Subí por un bosque mixto (¡vegetación, vacas y pájaros cantores!)                                                  Lovely weather beckoned on the first day of spring and I did a walk in a part of the province I rarely visit. I followed a slippery path up through a wood where apart from these cows, passerines were also much in evidence

Enfrente está Monte Orza

The hill opposite was visible through the trees

Desde el punto más elevado no hay muchas vistas, 

But from the highest point on the walk there wasn't much to admire

Monte Ibio

Hace años vine por aquí para seguir al Mozagro pero hoy cambié de rumbo y bajé por una parte muy bonita del bosque

I'd only come this way once before, and headed straight on and upwards, but today I changed direction and walked back down into the woods

El Monte Ibio se ve ahora en su totalidad

Mount Ibio was briefly more visible than it had been higher up

Bajé hacia un arroyo

I carried on down towards a stream

Los sonidos de un pájaro carpintero me acompañaban

accompanied by the constant drilling of a woodpecker

Seguí por la orilla

I made my way through the wood following the stream

Llegué a una cascada bonita, que llaman el Churlu

and reached a pretty little waterfall

y continuaba mientras los pájaros no paraban de cantar. ¡Qué alegría!

I carried on, enjoying the birdsong all the way

Esta piedra llama la atención en medio del bosque

This rock stood out in the middle of the wood

Al salir del bosque el sendero me llevaba por una finca con mastines y luego caballos. Todos muy amistosos.

When I came out, a path took me through a field with mastiffs and then horses. All very friendly.

Arroyo#2 / Stream #2

A la semana siguiente volví al mismo pueblo, pensando subir al monte Orza, que da nombre al grupo de montaña de Los Corrales de Buelna. Había llovido durante el día anterior pero no esperaba que el arroyo que tenía que cruzar más de tres veces iba a estar tan caudaloso. Para no mojarme los pies necesitaba bastante equilibrio al cruzar este tronco caído.

The following week I returned to the same point of departure with the aim of walking up to mount Orza. It had rained the previous day but I wasn't expecting the stream I had to cross on three occasions to be as deep as it was. So as not to get my feet wet I had to perform a balancing act as I crossed this fallen log.

Poco después, para cruzar debí rodear las ramas que me separaban de la que esperaba no se rompiera bajo mi peso

Not long afterwards crossing meant first getting round the branches that separated me from the one that I hoped would take my weight

A la tercera la más complicada: las piedras iban a estar muy resbaladizas así que debería seguir por la orilla hasta encontrar mejor sitio

At the third time of asking the stones would be too slippery for me to stay upright so I had to walk along the bank a bit in search of an alternative

Este tronco no me convencía

I wasn't convinced that this log would be stable enough

Pero un poco más adelante conseguí llegar al otro lado, gracias a los bastones, que ayudaban a mantener el equilibrio

But I managed to get across a bit further along, my poles enabling me to keep my balance

Con algo de alivio empecé a subir por el monte de enfrente

It was a relief to be able to make my way up the hillside opposite 

En la otra orilla veía las colinas hacia donde andaba la semana pasada

Looking back across the stream I saw the hills I had approached the previous week

y aquí está Monte Ibio, y a la izquierda la Cotera, el punto más alto de esa ruta

and here is Monte Ibio, with the high point I took a photo from on the left

La subida carecía de interés una vez fuera del bosque y la pista era de hormigón. Desde el collado veía a Los Corrales al otro lado

The walk up the hill soon became boring as the path had been cemented over. From the col I looked down on Los Corrales de Buelna on the other side

Returning, I got a view towards Mozagro

Al volver se dejaba ver Mozagro

La monotonía se rompió con este grupo de burros, parados en el camino

and then came across these donkeys unusually stood on the road

y un poco después me pasaron estos caballos mientras bajaba a Coó.

and a little later these horses passed me as I walked down to Coó.

Total, que la parte más divertida había sido el principio, cuando tenía que buscar la forma de cruzar el arroyo.

In retrospect, the most enjoyable part of the walk were the moments when I had to work out the best way to cross the stream

Arroyo #3 / Stream #3

Recuerdo otra caminata corta por la zona, en 2023, ya avanzada la primavera, saliendo cerca de Somahoz.

I remember another short walk in the same valley, in 2023 at the end of spring.

El camino al lado del Arroyo de la Canal de las Tejeras permite disfrutar de pequeños saltos de agua

The path that follows the Canal de las Tejeras upstream takes you past small waterfalls

Al salir de la canal se ven los montes hacia el sur

On coming out into the open, the hills to the south lie ahead

Volvimos por pista hacia el pueblo

We returned that day down a track to the town

Valle de Los Corrales de Buelna
