Rolacía arriba / Porracolina

Porracolina desde el puerto de Alisas; parecía que había algo de nieve reciente.  Mi idea era subir  desde Asón al otro lado de la montaña.

A well-known mountain in Cantabria, Porracolina, as seen from a vantage point on the way to Asón. There had been a recent snowfall by the looks of things; my plan was to walk up from the other side.

Aquí empezaba la ruta, en la entrada del barranco de Rolacía

Es una subida suave por un bosque que debe ser muy bonito en otras épocas del año. Llamaba la atención la cantidad de cantos de pájaros distintos.
The path makes its way up through a wood following the stream on the left  

Después de un buen rato coges una desviación a la derecha marcada con un hito (530 m) y la subida se hace más fuerte. Sales del bosque y llegas a esta cabaña.
After a while you take a fork up to the right away from the stream and the going gets steeper. When you come out of the wood you see this stone hut. 

Un buen sitio para parar a reponer fuerzas y disfrutar de la vista de la Porra de Mortillano enfrente
It was a good spot to have a bite to eat and admire the mountain opposite

La subida continúa por encima de la cabaña; el sendero va hacia la izquierda antes de cambiar de dirección y ganar altitud en una serie de zigzags. Luego sube derecho hacia la roca que se ve en la siguiente foto antes de dirigirse hacia la derecha y la canal de Pilafría

The path reappears at the top end of the meadow, first heading left, then changing direction and zigzagging upwards. It then goes straight up towards this rock before skirting to the right

Se llega a la majada de Helguerón a unos 1000 metros de altitud

El andar se hacía un poco más incomodo a partir de aquí debido a la nieve. Al final de la canal se llega a las cabañas de Sotombo
From here, progress became a bit more difficult because of the snow.

Mirando hacia atrás, Porra de la Colina y el Picón del Fraile
Behind me, on the other side of the gorge, a mountain with a similar name: Porra de la Colina and the Picón del Fraile, which houses a military base

Decidí dirigirme a la Peñas Gordas, dejando atrás Porracolina; se ven los Picos a lo lejos
I decided to head N-E, leaving Porracolina behind me; the Picos de Europa are visible in the distance

Después de un rato tuve que escoger entre seguir en la misma dirección o volver para atrás. Decidí dejar el Mosquiteru para otro día. Se ve La Porra de Mortillano en frente.
After a while I had to choose between carrying on in the same direction or going back. I decided on the latter option.

Después de retroceder y acometer las rampas pindias que suben a Porracolina llegué a la cumbre
Retracing my steps, I made my way up the steep incline to the summit

You can just make out the huts at the top of the gorge I came up and would go back down shortly

En la bajada paré al lado de esta cabaña de Helguerón
I stopped off again at this hut on the way down

A partir de ahí bajar por donde había subido
The path continued straight down the valley

Ya en el bosque, a veces dudaba del camino por estar escondido éste debajo de tanta hoja caída
Back in the wood, the path was occasionally hidden beneath the fallen leaves, making me wonder whether I was going the right way

no eran las hojas lo único caído
the leaves weren't the only things that had fallen

pero lo más llamativo de la bajada fue cuando llegaba al final del barranco. Se había desvanecido el agua del regato; compara esta foto...
but the weirdest thing was that when I got down to the stream, the water had vanished; compare this photo...

...con esta otra que saqué por la mañana en el mismo sitio con el zoom. Si alguien me lo puede explicar se lo agradecería. 

...with this other one I took in the morning in the same place, zooming in on the water falling from the rocks. I'd be grateful for any explanation.

  

Acabo este reportaje como lo empezaba, en Alisas, al anochecer, mirando hacia Peña Herrera y las Enguinzas, que protagonizaban la entrada anterior
