Balneario de Panticosa - Respomuso (13/7)

Llevaba muchos años con ganas de visitar la parte oscense del Pirineo y desde que se habló de este trekking hace más de 2 meses, lo tenía en mente casi todos los días.

Por fin llegó el gran día, y salimos del refugio donde habíamos pasado la primera noche en Balneario de Panticosa, en la primera de seis etapas.

I'd wanted to visit the central part of the Pyrenees for years, and from the moment this trip was mentioned, over two months ago, it was never far from my mind.

At last the great day arrived and we set off from the striking "hut" where we'd spent the first night on the first of six stages

Casa de Piedra

Se notaba mucha humedad en la subida inicial por el GR 11, aunque esta se reducía más adelante. Desde el comienzo veíamos multitud de cascadas al lado del sendero

The first part of the walk up the GR 11 trail was pretty humid. From the start we saw lots of waterfalls by the side of the path.

En la última parte de lo que era una subida constante tuvimos que atravesar unos pocos neveros en nuestro camino hacia el Cuello del Infierno

On the last part of the ascent we had to cross one or two snowfields to get to the top

Arriba, pudimos deleitarnos de la imagen del hielo deshaciéndose en el ibón

At the top we were treated to the sight of ice still remaining in the tarn

Subimos un poco más al collado de Piedrafita, el punto más alto de la etapa (2764 m)

We carried on up to the highest point of the stage (over 9000 ft) 

Bajamos por una canal que era el único sitio de todo el trekking donde había que ir con mucho cuidado

We descended the only spot on the whole trek that required special care

Nos acercamos al refugio donde íbamos a pasar la noche. De forma anecdótica, nada más entrar se cortó la luz y tuvieron que esperar a que llegara un técnico en helicóptero para arreglar la situación. 

We neared the hut where we were to spend the night. Just as we walked in, the power went off, and it needed an electrician to come up by helicopter for it to come back on

Ibón de Respomuso

Respomuso - Migouélou (14/7)

Al día siguiente continuamos hacia en noroeste. Detrás de nosotros veíamos la zona que habíamos descendido la tarde anterior además del refugio

Next day we continued to the north-west. Behind us we could see where we'd come down from the day before, as well as the hut

No tardamos en llegar a uno de los parajes más bellos de todo el trekking

A little later we came to one of the most beautiful spots on the whole trek

Debimos cruzar las rocas para luego subir hacia un collado que conecta España con Francia

We had to cross these boulders so as to take a path up to the pass that marks the border between Spain and France

La subida proporcionaba bellas perspectivas del ibón de abajo

The walk up afforded lovely views of the tarn below

Ibón de Arriel Alto

Desde el collado d'Arrémoulit esta es la vista que tienen los que cruzan desde el lado francés                                Those crossing over the Col d'Arrémoulit from the French side are greeted with this view

   Bajamos hacia el refugio histórico debajo del collado que estaban a punto de reabrir después de una renovación
   We walked down towards the oldest hut in the Pyrenees, below the col, and which was about to be reopened to the public after a complete overhaul

Después de reponer fuerzas a la sombra delante del ibón de Arrémoulit seguimos hacia abajo. Al pie del siguiente lago cruzamos con muchas personas que habían subido en un pequeño tren hasta Artouste.                    After having our lunch in the shade next to the lac d'Arrémoulit we carried on downhill. At the far end of the next lake we came across lots of day-trippers who'd come up in a narrow-gauge railway to Artouste.

Nosotros continuamos nuestro camino hacia arriba, viendo como detrás de nosotros se descubría poco a poco el valle des Tourettes al fondo 

We headed on upwards, and as we ascended, the Tourettes valley behind us came more and more into view

Una subida fuerte nos llevaba al Col d'Artouste, desde donde veíamos el Balaïtous,  una de las montañas más llamativas de esta parte del Pirineo                                                                                                                               A tough climb brought us up to the Col d'Atouste, from where we had a view of one of the most well-known mountains in the this part of the Pyrenees: Balaïtous

Más a la derecha y hacia abajo, unos lagos que pasamos antes de acometer la subida

To the right and lower down, some lakes we'd gone past before the main part of the climb

Lacs de Carnau

Nos quedaba una bajada de una hora para llegar al pequeño refugio de Migouélou a la derecha de un ibón y que, aunque no tenía duchas, era muy agradable.

An hour's walk down the other side of the pass led us the small Migouélou hut at the far end of a lake and which, in spite of not having showers was extremely pleasant.
