Vistas espléndidas en la frontera / Glorious views on the border

Por segunda vez en una semana anduvimos entre León y Cantabria. Y como el sábado anterior combinamos un camino que no conocía con otro que no recorría desde hacía muchos años. Para empezar bajamos al Portillo de Boquerón desde el Puerto de San Glorio en un día espléndido.

For the second week running we were on the León-Cantabria border. And as on the previous Saturday, there was a combination of new ground and renewed acquaintance. To begin with we walked down to the Naranco vega from the San Glorio pass on a glorious day.

Después de entrar en la vega, comenzaríamos una subida empinada por la pista que se aprecia a la izquierda de la siguiente foto

We headed left into the plain before walking up a steep slope along the track you can see on the left of the next photo

Al llegar al Collado, conectamos con la ruta que había seguido hace unos 20 años al ir a Peña Prieta

Para continuar tocaba acercarnos a la subida hacia el Cubil del Can

Next up was the ascent to Cubil del Can (the dog's lair)

Desde más arriba se ve la continuación de la Vega del Naranco y el pueblo de Llánaves de la Reina

On the way up I looked down towards the Naranco vega 

y el Macizo Central al fondo

and Picos de Europa over to the north

En la dirección contraria, los Puertos de Ríofrío

In the other direction lie the Riofrío pastures

Desde el punto más alto del recorrido de hoy enfrente están dos picos que subí en el 2019: el Alto de Zamburria , y detrás a la derecha, el Cohora, que subí con Monty.

From the highest point on today's hike I found myself opposite two peaks I walked up in 2019: Zamburria , and behind to the right, Cohora, when Monty came along

Bajamos al collado de nuevo y cogimos el sendero hacia el norte, que había subido años atrás y que nos proporcionaba nuevas panorámicas sobre la Vega del Naranco

We walked back down to the col and later took the path to the north - the one I'd come up years ago and which provided us with new prospects of the Naranco vega

Nos acercamos a una valla media rota antes del Portillón de las Yeguas y nos sorprendió este valle precioso

We wandered over to a half-broken fence and were taken aback by this stunning valley below us

We'd just walked round the base of that rocky summit in the centre, but only now realised the reason for its name, even though there is only one tit not two
