Liébana is the south-western part of Cantabria; it has its own microclimate, with many trees typical of Mediterranean woodland, and has the spectacular backdrop of the Picos de Europa separating it from Asturias and León.
Setting off early in the morning so as to be in the shade for as long as possible, we started our walk halfway along the road between Potes and Fuente Dé and headed up towards the Sierra de La Fuente, with the Picos behind us:
Esta semana me aseguré de levantarme temprano para poder hacer una ruta por Liébana. Salimos de Los Llanos, camino de Fuente Dé y subimos en la sombra hacia el este, Los Picos de Europa alegrando la vista cada vez que miraba hacia atrás:

After about an hour's ascent we got to a place called Brañes, where we left the track and headed up to the top of the sierra:
Después de una hora subiendo, llegamos a la majada de Brañes, donde la pista tuerce hacia abajo. Luego seguiríamos por ella, pero primero cogimos otro sendero hacia el sureste para ganar la parte alta de la Sierra de la Fuente:
