Aunque parezca inverosímil, no había empezado ninguna ruta en el Jito de Escarandi desde antes de la pandemia. Todo estaba como lo recordaba. La idea era reencontrarnos con el ejercicio que requiere un paseo por la montaña después de la paréntesis veraniega. Tenía ganas de subir al Casetón por el sendero en lugar de seguir la pista de siempre. Al llegar al prao de la foto fuimos hacia la derecha para buscar la Canal de las Vacas.
Incredibly, I hadn't done a walk from the Jito de Escarandi above Sotres since before the pandemic. Everything seemed very familiar though. The first part of this walk, whose aim was to get a few miles into the legs after the summer break, was similar to the path I took to Mancondíu. However, at the pasture in the photo we headed towards where the horses are grazing and followed the Canal de las Vacas route up towards the mountain refuge instead of heading up left like I did last time.

Canal de las Vacas means "Cow valley" by the way, but these were the only ones we came across
El veredicto sobre la canal cuando llegamos al refugio era muy positivo. Desde allí subimos por la pedrera hacia las viejas minas de Mazarrasa antes de subir hacia el NO. Luego bajamos por la canal del centro de esta foto y continuamos ladera arriba enfrente
From the refuge we walked up the scree towards the old Mazarrasa mines before veering NW. Then down the valley in the centre of this photo and up the slope opposite

Durante le bajada me encontré con un rebaño de cabras guardado por un mastín que no dejaba de ladrar...hasta que paré para observar como estos dos machos peleaban - entonces extrañamente dejó de ladrar, hasta que reanudé mi marcha
On the way down I encountered a herd of goats under the watchful eye of a mastiff who just would not stop barking at me... until I stopped to watch a couple of billies locking horns - which is when he strangely became quiet, until I went on my way again
