A gentle walk up through the woods

un paseo por el bosque

 

and then onto the incline that leads up to the mountain. Colina and Porracolina over to our left

seguido de la subida suave a la montaña. La Colina y Porracolina se ven a nuestra izq.

After following one of the many paths through the grassy hillside we occasionally have to traverse  areas of limestone pavement

Después de seguir uno de los muchos senderos por la parte baja de ladera herbosa llegamos a una zona donde  hay que pasar algún que otro lapiaz

The Porra de la Rasa is ahead to the left, while Mortillano pops its head up over to the right

La Porra de la Rasa está delante hacia la izq y el Mortillano se asoma la cabeza a la derecha

The best way to cross this chasm is to look for a cairn to the left, in front of the Rasa, though we took a more entertaining route the right

La mejor manera de cruzar esta sima es buscar un hito a la izq. delante de la Rasa, aunque nosotros probamos suerte por la derecha

so as we made our way across, this was the view to our left

mientras pasábamos, teníamos esto a nuestra izq.

From the summit you can see Laredo on the coast

Desde la cima se ven Laredo y el Buciero

Next time I plan to walk round to the northern side of this

La próxima vez mi idea es acercarme al otro lado de esta zona rocosa - Peña Rocías a la der.

Into the beech wood: lots of interesting outcrops - this one brought to mind a launchpad

Dentro del hayal hay unas cuantas afloraciones rocosos llamativos -  imaginaba un lanzacohetes

and this fallen tree reminded me of some headless creature guarding the path

y este árbol caído una criatura sin cabeza que pretende impedir el paso

Track

Un PR en Cabrales/A short walk with rewarding views

El río Duje a su paso por debajo del puente que tiene sus orígenes en la era romana. Al lado hay un antiguo molino. Aquí cerca se puede aparcar y subir a Tielve a la izquierda de la carretera.

The river Duje and the stone bridge near Tielve that has its origins in Roman times. An old river mill stands nearby. Near this spot there's room to park before walking up to the village on the other side of the road.

El comienzo del PR-PNPE 20 Monte Camba está señalizada en la carretera y en la parte alta del pueblo

The start of Short walk #20 through the Picos de Europa National Park is signposted by the roadside and in the upper part of the village

Tielve

La primera media hora es una subida muy pindia por una pista de cemento

The first half an hour takes you up a steep track

La última vista de Tielve antes de seguir por la pista, ya más llana, hacia dos majadas

The last view of Tielve before the track levels off a bit

Enseguida llegamos a la segunda, que ofrece una panorama bonita con el Urriellu al fondo

There are two groups of huts in close proximity. From the second there's a picture-postcard view of the most famous mountain in the Picos de Europa: the Naranjo de Bulnes

The track now becomes a path, headed to Sotres

Si sales directamente hacia arriba llegas a la carretera Sotres-Tresviso, pero tenía interés en ver de cerca una majada vista tantas veces desde el coche

You come out by the Sotres-Tresviso road, but I was interested in taking a closer look at the stone huts that I've driven past so many times in the past

Many walks up into the eastern massif start at the top of the road

En lugar de seguir por el PR decidí meterme a la derecha sin cruzar la carretera para bajar al pueblo por los prados

Instead of following the signposted route, I decided to take a path below the huts to the right without crossing the road and go down to the village through the fields

Aquí paré a almorzar, recordando la subida al Escamelláu (al fondo)

I stopped here for a bite to eat, remembering the walk up the mountain in the centre of the photo

Donde conecté con el PR otra vez hay un merendero, desde donde me asomaba sobre las Invernales del Texu y la pista que sube a Pandébano

where I rejoined the official route by a picnic spot, near which there's a good view of the stone huts below and the valley, together with the track that winds its way up to Pandébano

Hacia muchos años que me llamó por primera vez la atención el camino viejo a Tielve, pero venía siempre a hacer rutas más largas o bien gastronómicas... Hoy por fin lo iba a recorrer

I first became aware of the old walk down to Tielve years ago, but I have always come here for longer walks or to take in a meal... But today I was to follow it at last

Hay un par de sitios donde el caminante que padezca de acrofobía hará bien en no mirar hacia abajo... 

There are a couple of spots where any sufferer of acrophobia would do well not to look down the slope

El camino mantiene una altura constante sobre la carretera y el curso del río al fondo del valle

The path makes its way steadily down the valley, with the road to the left and the river right at the bottom

hasta que alcanza la carretera en esta curva un par de kilómetros antes de llegar a Tielve

until it comes out on by the side of the road near this bend

Poco tráfico en un día laborable así que los 2 km que restaban para llegar al coche eran placenteras

Not much traffic on a weekday, so the mile or so down to Tielve was a pleasant walk

Tardé 4 horas y media en completar la vuelta, no sin antes comprar un poco de queso en el bar de Tielve para llevar los sabores de Cabrales a casa. 

Es una ruta fácil y bien señalizada

The loop took four and a half hours to complete. It's an easy, well signposted walk.
