I rarely head out to Soba in the south-east of Cantabria, so it was a pleasant surprise to discover this walk, which begins and ends in Casatablas on the banks of the river Gándara, making its way to Ramales, where it flows into the Asón.
Salimos a una carretera, que nos lleva al pueblo de Fresnedo. Aquí dejo la PR balizada, que sigue por el asfalto. Desde el pueblo bajo al SE por un camino que se adentra en un bosque. Durante varios metros sigo una garduña que se resiste a apartarse del camino.
La carretera pasa por los pueblos de La Cistierna y Santa María antes de volver a Casatablas.

La ruta sale enfrente del bar del pueblo, y después de una corta subida pindia se convierte en un paseo suave con vistas bonitas

We come out onto a road that we have to follow to get to Fresnedo. This is where I leave the marked route, which carries on along the road. From the village I head down to the SE via a path that enters a wood. On the way I am preceded by a stoat that for some reason keeps on the path rather than making off into the longer grass.

Subo a visitar Herada, y doy un paseo por el pueblo
I walk up a track to visit Herada, and take a walk round the village
El resto de la ruta enlaza con la PR-S.21 por carretera, pero sin apenas tráfico. Salgo del asfalto y tomo el almuerzo en un prao con unas vistas preciosas, escuchando los pájaros y disfrutando de la primavera - algo que estaba fuera del alcance el año pasado.
The rest of the walk rejoins the PR-S.21 following a quiet road. I step off into a meadow to have something to eat and enjoy the views and sound of the birds singing around me. The beauty of spring that was out of reach last year.
