A walk along the coast

Rain was forecast in the mountains inland on the day I had pencilled in for going walking, so I decided to follow the coastline from Noja to Santoña towards the east of Cantabria instead.

When I started my walk along the beach at Noja it looked like glorious weather - it actually got too warm as the day progressed

At the end of the beach there's a path over the hill to get to the other side

A look back from the top of the hill

and a view of Berria beach with the Buciero mountain on the other side. My idea was to climb the summit you can see on the right

after crossing the beach and skirting Santoña, I took a road that goes towards the Buciero before taking this photo just below the final ascent

It was a hazy day but the views from the top were still worth seeing - Laredo just below

Santoña

and the Berria beach and Del Brusco hill I'd walked beforehand

a look back as I headed back down to Santoña

from Berria I could see clouds approaching the peak next to the one I'd just visited

the tide had turned an hour before as I reached Del Brusco again

a final view of the walk I had left back towards Noja

Back to Ramblers

This may be a departure from North Spain, but not from the origins of Rambler - incidentally, "rambler" etymologically is... a randy ram out "ruttin' "..., if I may mix my metaphors, and it's my blog so I reckon I may. The name of the blog, however, will become clear shortly...

Easter 2011 and a trip down memory lane, or rather "memory lanes". Here we are on Aylburton Common , where I grew up.

The bottom of my road comes into view...

New Road

There's a pheasant in this field, and in fact the whole walk was accompanied by the "musical cough"(my analogy) of pheasants. There were also rabbits and (grey) squirrels in abundance...

I was lucky the bluebells were in full bloom - I'd forgotten they existed...

If only you could capture the beautiful smell the flowers give off

Unfortunately, the "Please Drive Slow" sign has gone, but the pond remains, as we reach Upper Common

Back down New Road, and a photo of "Ramblers", and the window I looked out of every day for the first 18 years of my life. A bit difficult to play "tennis" against that wall now though...

"Ramblers" seen from the bottom of the field

The brook near the "Island"

Past the "Changing Point" now

The tree which appeared in my first ever photo (in black and white) - the bull has been replaced by some sheep

Memories of getting a lift up to the bus stop at the Lambsquay to get to school
