Hace 3 meses que no cuelgo nada en el blog, pero aquí estoy otra vez por fin. Fiándome de la buena previsión meteorológica me dirigí a Valdeolea, en el sur de Cantabria. Por la mañana subí al Pico Endino en el norte de la comarca, y por la tarde di un paseo por la parte del sur, lindando con Palencia.
Here I am again after 3 months' inactivity on the blog. With time on my hands at last and a decent weather forecast for Sunday, I headed for the south of Cantabria, while the rest of the country sat listening to the "Gordo" lottery draw at home - or so it seemed judging by the lack of cars on the road. I decided to do two short walks in the Valdeolea area.
Esperaba que hubiera más nieve pero como se verá, aunque un año más no tocó la lotería, sí tuve suerte en la montaña. Hacía sol cuando salía de Olea para hacer la corta ascensión al Endino. En la antecima (1500 metros) apenas había nieve, igual que en la cumbre, que se ve a la derecha.
I had hoped for more snow, but as you'll see, even though I didn't win anything on the lottery as usual, I did get lucky on the mountainside. I set off in sunshine up the short climb to the Endino. The summit is ahead to the right, with hardly any snow around.
Eso sí, soplaba un aire respetable y el hielo iba a tardar en deshelar
There was a fair wind blowing though, and I couldn't see the ice melting any time soon
En los pocos minutos que tardé en recorrer lo que quedaba para la cumbre empezó a cambiar el día. La antecima había desaparecido - esa nube no había registrado en mi radar.
It took just a few minutes to reach the summit from there, and when I looked back to where I'd taken the previous photo from I saw that the weather had changed - where that cloud came from I don't know.

Ya partir de ahí el paisaje cambió completamente. Como iba diciendo, tuve la suerte de conseguir disfrutar de las vistas antes de que la nube lo cubrió todo.
As I said before, I was lucky as I managed to see those views before everything was enveloped in cloud.
Como continuación me desplacé unos pocos kilómetros al pueblo de Las Henestrosas de las Quintanillas donde El Palacio de la Corralada ostenta este escudo tan llamativo
Back in the car I drove a few miles down the road to a little village just north of the border with the province of Palencia. I was greeted by this impressive coat of arms on the side of a mansion
Comencé una ruta circular (la PR-S35) casi completamente llana que discurría por un paisaje algo monótono bajo la nube. Cerca del pueblo de inicio se ve esta iglesia románica (de Santa María)
From here I began a circular walk pretty much on the level. Near the village I set out from stands this Romanesque church, but it was one of few noteworthy sights I was to see

Vi un ciervo que había salido del bosque probablemente para evadir los cazadores, pero al vernos se adentró otra vez - pocos minutos después los sabuesos empezaban a ladrar. Total, que no conseguí disparar mi cámara a tiempo cuando lo vi - espero que haya evitado disparos más peligrosos dentro del bosque.
I did see a deer, who'd probably come out of the woods to escape the hunters; but when he saw us he fled back inside. Not long afterwards the hounds started barking, so I hope he avoided the hunters' guns as well as he did my camera lens.
A falta de ciervo pues, estas dos vacas, dándonos la bienvenida a Cantabria, después de habernos metido un rato en Palencia.
Instead of a majestic deer then, these two cows, welcoming us back into Cantabria after a brief foray into the neighbouring province.
La verdad es que no recomendaría esta ruta especialmente, ya que una buena parte se hace por carretera, aunque había muy poco tráfico.
Not the most memorable walk I've ever done, but at least it didn't rain!
