En torno al Cuchillón / On a knife-edge

El Cuchillón, la cumbre más alta del macizo de Alto Campoo.

Cuchillón (the big knife) is the highest point of the mountains surrounding the Brañavieja ski station

Salimos del aparcamiento de Calgosa y después de una subida cómoda, evitando los neveros, llegamos a la cresta que nos llevaba a la cumbre
We set off from the Calgosa carpark and made our way up the slope avoiding the snow where possible. When we reached the ridge we walked along to the right to the summit

We come down from the summit and see it from the SW

Nuestra idea de seguir hasta Tresmares se trunca debido a la gran cantidad de nieve en el camino, así que volvemos sobre nuestros pasos. Se han quitado un poco las nubes sobre Curavacas.
The plan had been to carry on to Tresmares but due to the amount of snow we returned to Cuchillón. We can now see a little more of the mountains to the west

Decidimos probar hacia el este. La acumulación de nieve impide la ruta directa así que bajamos de la cima para encontrar un sitio donde podemos alcanzar la continuación del cordal.

We decide to try towards the east. Again, the snow forces us to make a detour to get back to the ridge to the south of Cuchillón

We descend a little and then head up the slope opposite

Las nubes se alejan momentáneamente de la sierra del Cordel y volvemos a Calgosa.

The clouds retreat briefly from the Cordel range as we head back down to the carpark.

Olhão: art in the streets / graffiti y leyendas

A combination of wet/wintry weather and knee injury explain the lack of blogs lately. But I'm making the most of another rainy Sunday afternoon to post another in an occasional series of urban scapes. The first thing that drew my attention driving into Olhão on the Portuguese Algarve was this abandoned church covered in graffiti. "I'll have to check that out later," I thought. 

No he subido nada al blog últimamente a causa del tiempo y una rodilla tocada, que han impedido salidas al monte. Pero aprovecho otra tarde dominical lluviosa para compartir unas fotos sacadas en entorno urbano. Lo primero que me llamó la atención al entrar en Olhão en Algarve (Portugal) era esta iglesia abandonada decorada con graffitis. "Tendré que volver a mirarla más de cerca", pensé.

But back to the abandoned church on the road into town:

And nearby a graffiti artist complains about being treated as a criminal

I was also taken by the legends associated with the town given artistic expression in squares in the old quarter
Me gustó también la ruta por el barrio antiguo donde han dado expresión artística a algunas leyendas relacionadas con Olhão.

This one depicts Arraúl, the last survivor of Atlantis, who legend has it created the islands off the coast of Olhão.
A Arraúl, el último superviviente de Atlántida, se le atribuye la leyenda la creación de las islas a la entrada de la Ría Formosa, al sur de la península.

If only in the town I live in we had interesting street art like this instead of the childish tags that make some walls an eyesore...

Ojalá hubiera arte callejero de este tipo en el pueblo donde vivo, en lugar de las firmas infantiles que ensucian algunos muros del municipio...
