La "Senda del Carteru" arranca en pleno Desfiladero de los Beyos. Desde que hice la Senda del Arcediano hace muchos años quería conocer esta zona un poco más. Al final no se tarda más en llegar aquí desde Cantabria que ir a Fuente Dé. Aparqué al lado del Sella entre los kms 133 y 134 de la N-625, donde hay sitio para un par de coches. Justo enfrente está el comienzo de la subida, cuya primera parte es muy pindia, como se aprecia en esta foto, sacada en el punto donde la senda cambia de dirección y gira hacia la izquierda.
The so-called "Postman's path" starts from the main road from Cangas de Onís that follows the famous Sella river along the Beyos Gorge. There are one or two spots to leave a car between Puente Vidosa and the beginning of the walk. The first part is really steep, as you can see from this photo, taken just where the path stops going straight up the side of the gorge and changes direction to continue diagonally up to the left.

After going up about 300 metres I spy Biamón, where most of the houses are now in ruins, though there was one old guy renovating his.

Llego al pueblo de Casielles, donde subo al cementerio, y sigo para arriba para conectar con un sendero que va en paralelo al tendido eléctrico. Hacia abajo se ven las primeras curvas de las más de 20 que bajaré luego para volver a la nacional.
Reaching the village of Casielles, I turn left up past the cemetery and get onto a path that follows the power lines. Below me is the first part of the road that goes down to the main road. There are over 20 hairpin bends. I'll see for myself later on.

Evidentemente ha habido un incendio en los últimos tiempos, que quita belleza del paisaje. La pista llega hasta el colláu Boya la Campiella y luego se sube a la derecha a Peña Salón
There was obviously a fire here in recent times, which has had an impact on the beauty of the landscape. The track goes up to a col and then a path heads up to the right to Peña Salón
Desde arriba hay una bonita vista del macizo oriental (Canto Cabronero en el centro y a su izquierda Peña Santa). A la derecha está el Jario
From the top there's a view of the western side of Picos de Europa. Snowcapped Jario is to the right - that's where I went last time I was in this part of the country.
Al no venir casi nunca por estos lares veo muchas cimas que ni me sonaban: detrás de Peñas Vibolines (a la izquierda de Boya la Campiella) están Peña Niajo y Pozalón al fondo, con Peña Subes y Sen de los Mulos delante y hacia la derecha. ¡Costó un poco dar con los nombres!¡Espero no haberme equivocado!
As I don't frequent these parts, most of the mountains I can see are totally new to me

Back in Casielles I look around the village. There are two horreos (granaries) with gable roofs as opposed to the usual kind (with pyramid hip roofs) in Asturias. This one has six pillars,
y éste otro, cuatro. Tuve la suerte de coincidir con un paisano, que me dijo que solo queda un habitante en el pueblo
and this other one, four. According to a local who I got talking to there is only one permanent resident in the village
Al final del camino al lado de este hórreo se llega a un mirador natural. Arriba a la derecha veo la cara este de Peña Salón
The path next to this horreo leads to a natural viewpoint. Up to the right I can see the east face of Peña Salón
Casielles
Atajé las primeras curvas de la carretera, pero luego seguí el asfalto
I took a short cut through the fields at the top of the road but thereafter followed the tarmac

I came across another barn next to a bend
Las vistas son bonitas y no pasó ningún coche
The views are pretty and there were no cars to disturb the peace
La parte más llamativa está más abajo después del cruce y la carretera bordea el arroyo Viboli. Este tramo se llama Foz de los Andamios
The part I most enjoyed was lowwer down after the crossroads, when the road follows the Viboli river.
Al llegar al N-625 en Puente la Huera veo grabadas unas palabras de Paul Labrouche, que elogiaba los ingenieros responsables de la carretera por este desfiladero
When you get onto the main road you cross a bridge and find this plaque with an extract from a work by a French geographer, expressing his admiration for the engineers who built the road through the gorge
La sigo hacia el norte durante un par de kilómetros. No estaba muy transitada, y pronto llego a mi coche
I followed it for a couple of kms. There wasn't much traffic, and I soon reached my car.
