Me extrañó ver tantos coches aparcados al lado de la Casa del Monte en Ucieda a esas horas tempraneras. Era como si hubiera un concurso fotográfico - ¡nunca he visto a tantas personas con trípodes en mi vida! Pero todos se quedaban abajo al lado del río Bayonés. Desde que cogí la pista que sube a la izquierda a Hayacorva no volví a cruzar con nadie.
Desde luego mis fotos ni pueden, ni pretenden competir con las sacadas por quienes toman en serio la fotografía. Para mi lo esencial es el paseo, y lo vivido con los sentidos. Las fotos me ayudan a recordar las rutas, ayudan a animar a otros a descubrir estos sitios (espero) y intentan explicar a los que viven lejos cómo es esta parte de España.
I'd never seen so many people with tripods in my life! The world and his wife had got up early one Sunday morning to photograph the beech trees by the river in Ucieda. They hadn't strayed far from the carpark though, and I met no-one else during my walk through the forest. One of the first walks I did in Cantabria, and which is ideal if you have few hours at your disposal.
Anyway, my photos have no pretensions, but it would be difficult to fail to capture something of the beauty of the autumnal scenes that Monty and I enjoyed - though Monty rather more through the sense of smell than sight.
En Las Palancas cogí el sendero poco marcado hacia el refugio para luego acercarme a la base del Alto el Toral. La senda entre los helechos y aulagas no se encontraba tan fácilmente como las otras veces que he venido por aquí. En la divisoria miré hacia el valle de Cieza, donde estuve hace tres fines de semana. En lugar de acometer la subida pindia al Toral seguí el sendero bien marcado pero bastante encharcado, después de una semana con mucha lluvia, que va hacia el N-E.
Once we were out of the woods I looked down on the next valley, which we'd explored three weekends ago.

I sat down to have something to eat and take in the forest below and the mountains in the distance
Volví hasta Las Palancas y seguí el recorrido. Entre los árboles se veía todavía la sierra de Peña Sagra

After a week of rain the sound of rushing water was everywhere
y así hasta el último tramo otra vez donde se juntan las pistas. Ya no había casi nadie en la zona y podía disfrutar más cómodamente de la los colores y sonidos de la naturaleza.
When we came down again all the photographers had gone and I was able to enjoy the colours and sounds of nature at my leisure
