Me apetecía hacer una ruta que no implicaba madrugar. La solución era la subida a Peña Abismo. Tardé casi tanto en acercarme en coche como en subir a la cima, pero mereció la pena por lo bonito que es la peña en sí y las vistas que había desde arriba.
Aparqué en el Puerto de Piedrasluengas, y bajé por la carretera al pueblo del mismo nombre. Se llega en seguida, y hay que coger la pista que arranca al lado de la iglesia, que se ve a la izquierda.
Peña Abismo (Abyss in English) lies just south of Cantabria, near Piedrasluengas pass. It takes less than two hours from the pass to get to the top - not much longer in fact than the time it took me to drive to Piedrasluengas. From there you walk down the road to the village of the same name and take a track by the church on the left of the road.

All you have to do is follow the track as it goes east then south
Pasé por delante de la peña y rodeé un cerro para entrar en un prao. Subí directamente a la izquierda de un vallado hasta unas rocas que quedan al este de la cima.
The track takes you past Peña Abismo and after going round a hillock you leave it to enter an area of pastureland. To make the most of the hike, I walked straight up on the left-hand side of a fence to get to the rocks to the east of the Peña.
Desde aquí decidí por dónde iba a subir la peña - metiéndome por el corte a la derecha para luego buscar un sitio para pasar a la cumbre.

Bajamos directamente por la ladera, pero en lugar de continuar hasta el final de la arista que seguimos antes, atravesamos el prao a la primera oportunidad para conectar con la pista
We went straight down the side of the mountain, but instead of walking to the end of the ridge we crossed into the pastureland at the first opportunity to connect up with the track.

Otra vez en la pista, y justo donde cambia de dirección y va hacia el oeste, antes de una portilla canadiense, la dejamos para subir un poco por un sendero de ganado y continuar en paralelo a la carretera que se ve abajo. Delante, se ve que las nubes se acercan otra vez al Cuernón.
Back on the track, which we followed as far as a cattle grid where the track turns to the west. Here we went up a path that that goes parallel to the road below to the left. Ahead the clouds were threatening Peña Sagra once again.
Al llegar al puerto de Piedrasluengas, decidí seguir un poco por la pista que baja hacia la oeste y que siempre me había llamado la atención. Entra en un hayedo, que proporcionaba una sombra que se agradecía en ese momento
When we got to the little car park I decided to follow a track that goes down to the west for a while. The shade from the beech trees was welcome.
