Un día en el bosque / Up in the woods

Many years ago I did a walk from Silió up to Cildá, but I must say I enjoyed this one much more, following the PR-42 route to begin with to the Monte Canales woods

Hace muchos años hice una ruta desde Silió hasta Cildá, pero ésta por Monte Canales me ha gustado mucho más. Empezamos por seguir durante un buen rato el PR-42 

We only followed that route for so long though, and the further we went, the narrower the paths became 

El PR gira hacia la derecha pero decidimos seguir de frente y continuar por un sendero que pronto se hizo más estrecho

The colours of autumn were hardly visible at this stage of October, but the occasional flurry of falling leaves reminded me of that Japanese masterpiece, "The Ballad of Narayama"

A mediados de octubre todavía no se notan mucho los colores de otoño, pero las ocasionales caídas de hojas provocadas por la brisa me rescataban de la memoria una escena de la película estupenda "La balada de Narayama"

After we changed direction to begin our loop round, we decided to leave the faint path we'd been on behind and were rewarded with lovely scenery in an area of woodland that has clearly been off the beaten track for many years

Cuando ya giramos hacia la derecha, seguimos una senda débil durante un rato antes de dejarlo y caminar monte a través en subida suave. En este tramo disfrutamos de la belleza de una zona de bosque poco visitada por las personas

Eventually we came out into the open as we walked through the upper reaches of the woods

Andábamos por la parte alta del bosque, y encontramos zonas de helechos y vaguadas que había que cruzar antes de volver al refugio de los árboles

At this point we decided to head down along a dirt track

Cuando estábamos cerca de un collado de la Sierra del Escudo llegamos a una pista, que nos llevó hacia abajo

This firebreak was the steepest section of the walk

Este cortafuegos era la parte más pindia de la caminata

We took the first opportunity to return to the woods and make our way back down to the village

Cogimos la primera oportunidad de volver al cobijo de los árboles e ir bajando al pueblo
