Investigando caminos por Rionansa y Lamasón me encontré con dos rutas que decidí combinar. Un aliciente más era que al salir del pueblo de Obeso tendría la oportunidad de ver la Torre de Rubín de Celis, que domina el valle del Nansa. No se puede acercar del todo a la estructura, pero se aprecia que la parte de arriba está compuesta por piedras distintas. Se supone esta última parte se añadió en el siglo 16 a la ya existente de por lo menos un siglo antes.
While researching walks in the Nansa region I found a couple I reckoned could be combined. As a bonus I would get to see a medieval tower in the village I set off from, which overlooks the valley. You can't get up close to it, but it's clear the stones in the upper part have a different hue. Supposedly, in the 16th century this section was added to the existing structure built at least a century earlier.

La primera parte de la ruta no tenía nada reseñable, salvo las señales de un incendio que había alcanzado una extensión considerable del monte.
Ya que mi intención era dejar la pista y subir hacia las brañas, cuando vi un sendero prometedor, lo cogí y encontré paisajes más interesantes.
The first part of the walk was nothing to write home about, owing to the signs of a fire that had affected all that part of the hillside.
As I meant to leave the trail and make my way up to higher ground, when I saw a promising-looking path, I followed it and moved away from the charred tree trunks.Disfrutaba de una subida sin tener que estar pendiente de un track de gps, buscando restos de senderos, bordeando una finca y aprovechando de la intuición para avanzar hacia arriba. Terminé alcanzando una pista que me serviría para seguir de forma menos pindia.
La torre de Obeso destaca cuando uno mira hacia el fondo del valle.
I enjoyed the climb uphill without having to bother with a gps track, on the lookout for paths, skirting an enclosed property and trusting my intuition to find the best way up. I eventually came out onto a trail that would enable me to continue to the top of the range more gently.

Una de las razones por hacer esta ruta era disfrutar de la vista de la Sierra de Peña Sagra, pero no iba a tener suerte a causa de las nubes que escondían esas torres naturales
One of the reasons why I was interested in doing this walk was to enjoy views of the Peña Sagra mountain range close up, but it was obvious I was going to be out of luck as clouds were hiding the summits
En cambio la vista hacia el monte de Arria estaba bien despejada, y pasé un buen rato reconociendo los pasos varios al macizo y donde estuve más recientemente, el Gamonal, en el centro de la imagen. En primer plano está un menhir. No cuesta trabajo imaginar por qué nuestros antepasados escogieron este lugar para construir varios túmulos. Andando por esta parte de la braña intentaba imaginar cuáles de los montículos y lajas serían los restos megalíticos de que hace mención un panel en Obeso
The sky was much clearer towards Arria though, and I enjoyed looking for the passes to the massif and seeing Gamonal, in the centre of the photo, which I walked to recently. A standing stone is in the foreground - it's not hard to imagine why this spot was chosen for several barrows. Looking around at some of the mounds and slabs of rock I wondered if they were the megalithic remains that are referred to on a board in Obeso
Siguiendo por el cordal llegué a un lugar que según el mapa es Piedrahita. Los restos prehistóricos que seguramente dan origen a este nombre no eran evidentes. En un principio había pensado continuar hasta el cueto Cajigo, que se ve delante a final de la loma, pero ya que parecía que no iba a disfrutar de buenas vistas a Peña Sagra, decidí dar la vuelta. También influía la previsión meteorológica.
I continued as far as a point called Piedrahita, but couldn't see much point in carrying on to the end of the range that lay ahead as the views weren't going to be worth it. I also had the weather forecast in mind

From time to time I looked back, and on one of those occasions got lucky and saw the highest peak in Peña Sagra.

El pronóstico del tiempo había acertado, y empezaba a chispear just cuando llegué al coche
The forecast was spot on, and I felt the first raindrops just as I got back to my car
Durante esta caminata oí por primera vez este año el canto del cuco, y ya en Obeso, lo que me sorprendió más, por estar a principios de abril, ¡vi una golondrina!
The walk was also memorable as I heard a cuckoo for the first time this year, and back in Obeso, to my surprise saw a swallow - at the beginning of April!
